Day 1 (LD): WAGGA WAGGA TO RENMARK – Monday, 23rd June 2025
Welcome to our 8-day tour into the remote northern region of Outback South Australia that will provide a stunning opportunity to fly over Lake Eyre. To get here we will travel via the South Australian Riverland and the Flinders Ranges to base ourselves at Leigh Creek – 600ks north of Adelaide. From Wagga Wagga this morning we travel into the South Australian Riverland for our overnight stop at Renmark.
Lunch en-route | Dinner in the motel
Renmark Hotel Motel, Renmark
Day 2 (BLD): RENMARK TO LEIGH CREEK – Tuesday, 24th June 2025
We make an early start today and head to the small South Australian town of Burra for our morning break. Copper from Burra’s “Monster Mine” saved South Australia from bankruptcy in the 1840’s. It was the largest metal mine in the country employing 1000 people. Our lunch stop is in Peterborough, and we visit the Steamtown Rail Heritage Centre which has undergone extensive expansion and refurbishment. After a tour and a light lunch our afternoon drive takes us to Hawker where we look at the Jeff Morgan Gallery. Jeff has created a unique work of art in a round format which can be viewed by climbing onto a large platform which gives the illusion, just as if you were on top of St. Mary’s Peak in the Flinders Ranges. From here we have around another hour and a half onto Leigh Creek for our two-night stay.
Breakfast and dinner in the motel | Light lunch at Steamtown
Leigh Creek Outback Resort, Leigh Creek – 2 nights
Day 3 (BLD): FLIGHTS OVER LAKE EYRE – Wednesday, 25th June 2025
We head north this morning to Marree at the junction of the Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks. It’s from here we have arranged a 90-minute sightseeing flight with Arid Air over the Marree Man and Lake Eyre South. We will see the bottom of Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre South and across to the Southern tip of Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre North and Belt Bay the lowest point on mainland Australia. This flight is an excellent way to see all that Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre has to offer including the main river systems which feed into the Lake. Back in Marree we have arranged lunch in the Marree Pub before an afternoon drive to Farina to look at the historic ruins.
Breakfast and Dinner in the motel | Pub lunch at Marree
Day 4 (BLD): LEIGH CREEK TO WILPENA POUND – Thursday, 26th June 2025
Today we follow along the edge of the Flinders Ranges to Parachilna for lunch in the historic Prairie Hotel. Later, enter the Central Flinders Ranges before an afternoon visit to historic and picturesque Blinman, an old copper mining town dating back to 1859. From here head south to the Flinders Ranges National Park arriving at the Wilpena Pound Resort. Wrap up warmly as late afternoon we’ll drive to Pugilist Lookout for Sundowners – nibbles and drinks as we watch the sun set with a spectacular backdrop.

Day 5 (BD): FLINDERS RANGES TO PORT AUGUSTA – Friday, 27th June 2025
On our adventures today, we uncover the dramatic gorges and spectacular peaks of the Flinders Ranges. We meet our local guide who will take us on an insider’s tour of this stunning national park. We adventure into the gorges to explore the landscape whilst hearing stories from a Yura guide and seeing more than 800 million years of geological history. Enjoy sweeping views of Bunyeroo Valley and the eastern wall of Wilpena Pound and marvel at the age of this landscape with a visit to some of the oldest fossils on the earth. This afternoon we travel through to Port Augusta where we can settle in.

Day 6 (BLD): PORT AUGUSTA – Saturday, 28th June 2025
Today, we embark on an historical train journey aboard the Afghan Express Rail. Watch gum-lined creeks, bluebush-studded hills and ancient rocky outcrops roll past at a relaxed pace as we journey through the famous Pichi Richi Pass to the historic township of Quorn. After lunch in Quorn, we return to Port Augusta to visit the Wadlata Outback Centre. It is here, through ‘hands on’ displays and audiovisual presentations that the outback culture, its history and the incredible achievements of both the Aboriginal and European people are graphically displayed. The stories of John McDouall Stuart, who was the first European to cross the continent from South to North and several other early pioneers are told at Wadlata – be sure to hear them and then appreciate the hardships these explorers endured travelling through this desolate country nearly 150 years ago. We make our way to our accommodation for dinner.
Breakfast and dinner at hotel | Lunch at Great Northern Lodge
Day 7 (BLD): PORT AUGSTA TO WENTWORTH – Sunday, 29th June 2025
From Port Augusta we travel via the Wirrabara Art Silo. The silos now proudly display the likeness of Dion Lebrun, a resident of Tumby Bay chosen by the artist Smug as the embodiment of a quintessential South Australian farmer. From here we travel to the Overland Corner Hotel for lunch. Continuing this afternoon, we stop to view the Paringa Silo Art, painted by renowned artist Jack Fran. The silo features four distinct images linked together with soaring pelicans. We arrive at our hotel for tonight with time to freshen up before dinner out this evening at the Crown Hotel.
